About the Farm
Background
Located in the Panhandle of North Idaho, this small, family-owned farm has built its foundation on raising registered, purebred Lamancha dairy goats. The farm holds a small herd permit through the State of Idaho (#RGM 076) and has been selling milk and dairy products directly from the farm. Monthly inspections and testing by the State ensure the quality of their raw dairy products. In 2013, the herd tested negative for CAE, CL, Johnes, Brucellosis, and Tuberculosis.
Practices
The goats are fed a diet of free choice grass hay and alfalfa, supplemented during milking with a non-GMO mixture of wheat, barley, peas, sunflower seeds, goat minerals, selenium, and vitamin E, all sourced locally in North Idaho. The farm employs an alternatively raised approach, using antibiotics only when absolutely necessary. Hand milking is preferred to foster a healthier relationship with the goats and to closely monitor their health. Milking equipment and glass jars are meticulously sterilized, and the milk is strained twice before being chilled immediately. The farm began DHI Milk Testing in 2014 to gain recognition for their goats' productivity.
The Rest
The farm's dedication to high-quality raw dairy products is evident in their rigorous testing and inspection processes. The goats' milk, known for its sweet flavor, serves as the base for their dairy products. The farm also raises beef cattle, hogs, geese, ducks, and chickens, contributing to a diverse and interconnected farming ecosystem.
