About the Farm
Background
In early 2017, Ryan Morici discovered a neglected property with an old farmhouse and an 1800s-era barn in Washington Township, MI. Initially intending to renovate and resell the house, Ryan was captivated by the barn's high, arched ceiling and heavy wooden beams. Restoring the barn became his passion project. The barn, which had housed racehorses for 30 years, was restored to its original structure using period-correct, hand-hewn wood. Upon completion, Ryan transformed the property into Washington Township’s first organic produce farm. Raven Oaks Farm opened to the public in 2021, offering a variety of organic, heirloom produce.
Practices
Raven Oaks Farm employs regenerative farming practices that prioritize soil health, protect pollinators, and minimize waste. Seasonal vegetables are grown both in the fields and in cold-frame hoop houses. Free-range chickens are raised organically for egg production. A dedicated 2-acre plot is designed to attract bees, butterflies, birds, and beneficial insects, enhancing the farm's ecosystem. The property also features an old growth swamp with a creek running through it, contributing to the farm's biodiversity.
The Rest
The farm is committed to providing the community with nutritious food, beautiful flowers, and friendly service. They support a slow, intentional way of living, emphasizing the importance of eating nutritious foods, spending time outdoors, and reducing toxin intake. The farm team, including Alyssa Prouty, Mario Torres, Alexa Hanaford, and Lalo Bautista, brings diverse experience and passion to daily operations. Raven Oaks Farm also engages with the community through various offerings such as The Market and The Farm Club.
