About the Farm
Background
In 2014, a family decided to re-settle a neglected 15-acre farm in Franklin County, Virginia, restoring an old farmhouse and transforming the property into a vibrant farm. The farm's name is inspired by the shape of the land, resembling a rabbit's head. Initially driven by a quest for high-quality ingredients, the family expanded their operations to include various livestock and garden spaces, experimenting with different products and techniques. Over time, their vision of a pasture-based farm emerged and solidified.
Practices
Rotational grazing is at the heart of their farming philosophy. Goats, primarily Nubian, and Jersey cows rotationally graze and browse, supplemented with locally grown non-GMO feed. All milk produced is A2/A2. The farm also offers pasture-raised pork and chicken eggs. Their approach is deeply regenerative, aiming to enrich the soil and land rather than deplete it. By taking care of their animals and land, they believe they are also taking care of their own health and that of their customers.
The Rest
The farm is conveniently located near Roanoke and Smith Mountain Lake. They emphasize the interconnectedness of their farming practices with the health of their family, customers, and the land. Inspired by thinkers like Wendell Berry and Masanobu Fukuoka, they view their farming as a calling and an obligation to create a place at their customers' tables for the things they produce.
