About the Farm
Background
Providence Creek Farm is managed by the Gehl family and has established itself as a diverse livestock farm. Known for its commitment to raising animals on pasture, the farm offers a range of products including chicken, pork, beef, lamb, goat, and rabbit meat, as well as eggs.
Practices
Chickens are raised on pasture with access to fresh grass and bugs, supplemented with organic no-soy grain, pulp, barley, and cheese from local manufacturers. Pigs are rotated through pastures in the summer and kept in deeply bedded pens during the winter, foraging on produce, day-old bread, hay, and whey. No growth hormones or routine antibiotics are used. Laying hens live in a mobile coop, aiding in breaking the parasite cycle of other livestock and ensuring access to fresh forage. Rabbits are raised in pens similar to chickens, valued for their flavor and nutritional qualities.
The Rest
The farm processes chickens on-site by hand, ensuring safety and quality. Pigs are sold by the cut or whole/half, with weights based on the hanging weight. Eggs from the farm have bright orange yolks due to the nutrient-rich diet of the hens. The farm also caters to high-end restaurants and chefs with its rabbit meat.
