About the Farm
Background
Located halfway between Houston and Austin on the rolling prairie of central Texas, this diversified working farm has been a staple in the community, known for its cattle, chickens, rabbits, and bed and breakfast accommodations. The farm welcomes visitors and offers a unique opportunity to experience farm life firsthand.
Practices
Pasture raising beef and goats without the use of hormones or antibiotics is at the core of their farming philosophy. Organic practices are observed, although the farm is not certified. Chickens are allowed to range freely during the day and are secured in the henhouse at night to protect them from predators. The farm also raises Holland Lop rabbits, a friendly dwarf breed known for their floppy ears.
The Rest
The farm offers a variety of products including vegetables, fruit, flowers, eggs, and chicken, all sold directly from the farm and at a local farmer's market. Bed and Breakfast accommodations are available by reservation, with options including the main farmhouse, a separate guesthouse called The Smokehouse, and a small self-contained house known as The Cottage, accommodating up to 14 guests. The property is ideal for star-gazing due to its dark-sky designation. The farm also specializes in purebred Red Brahman cattle, aiming to provide excellent replacement heifers and bulls for both purebred and commercial herds.
