About the Farm
Background
Established in the fall of 2012 in the Porters neighborhood of downtown Gainesville, this urban farm was created with the support of many funders. It is known as Gainesville's first urban farm and has been dedicated to supplying fresh produce to local charities and markets since its inception.
Practices
The farm utilizes intensive growing methods on ten 55-foot rows to maximize the yield of fresh organic vegetables. The focus is on organic farming practices to ensure the produce is healthy and nutritious.
The Rest
The farm aims to supply 1 ton of fresh vegetables annually to St. Francis House for the Homeless and other local charities. In addition to charitable donations, the farm sells produce to restaurants, select farmers markets, and Citizens Co-op. Volunteer support is crucial to the farm's operations, with workdays scheduled throughout the summer.
