Pollo Real/Real Chicken

Pollo Real, the first Certified Organic pastured poultry operation in the United States, was relocated 25 years ago along Camino Real by the Rio Grande in Socorro, N.M. Tom, a 6th generation farmer with over 50 years of experience in organic and sustainable food production, has been a significant figure in the pastured poultry movement. He has presented at numerous farm conferences, consulted widely, and was a founding member and past president of the American Pastured Poultry Producers Association (APPPA).

Pollo Real employs rotational grazing methods, moving chickens daily to fresh grasses, ensuring they receive fresh air and sunshine. This practice builds healthy soils, preserves water, and avoids pollution. The chickens graze on organic pastures and consume organic grains. Harvesting occurs on the farm, eliminating long-distance hauling and reducing stress for the birds. The farm uses a portable shelter called the 'Churt' to protect birds from predators and harsh weather while facilitating easy movement. Hand processing in a USDA exempt facility ensures safety and flavor.

Pollo Real offers a variety of poultry products, including whole fryers, whole roasters, cut-up fryers, and heritage turkeys. They also provide specialty items like green chili-garlic turkey sausages and sixty-hour chicken and turkey broths. Products can be shipped via UPS or priority mail.
