About the Farm
Background
In 2005, Dave Purpura transitioned from a corporate job at Nokia to full-time farming, driven by a lifelong passion for growing food. The farm, initially based on Fuller Street, has evolved over the years, now operating on three acres at Soule. Despite changes in location, the farm has consistently focused on building a community around beautiful, organic produce. Sasha Purpura joined Dave in this endeavor, leaving her job to embrace farm life and further her education in sustainable practices.
Practices
The farm adheres to certified organic standards, emphasizing heirloom vegetable varieties and pasture-raising all livestock. Chickens, turkeys, ducks, pork, beef, and lamb are raised on pasture, with animals fed grass or certified organic grain as appropriate. This approach ensures nutrient-rich soil and healthy, happy food, fostering a deep connection between the land and its produce.
The Rest
The farm primarily sells through a CSA and two farmers markets, Harvard Square and Plymouth, and supplies local upscale restaurants. The CSA shares cater to home cooks and families, offering a variety of typical and unusual vegetables. The farm also hosts community events, such as garlic-planting parties, and welcomes interns to help with farm operations, creating a vibrant, interconnected community of food lovers.
