About the Farm
Background
Located in the small town of Pine, CO at 8,500ft, Pine Mountain Homestead has become known for its compassionate care of a variety of livestock including goats, chickens, ducks, and rabbits. The homestead offers raw goat milk herd shares, chicken and duck eggs, and will soon provide meat rabbits. They also sell baby chicks, baby ducks, baby rabbits, and occasionally baby goats.
Practices
The homestead feeds its herd and flock solely organic, non-GMO grains in addition to allowing them to forage freely. They strive towards implementing more permaculture systems of natural farming and gardening, including season extensions and high-altitude plant starts.
The Rest
Visitors can engage in internships, farm visits, and homesteading classes. The homestead boasts a large array of heritage breeds such as Oberhasli goats, Silver Fox Rabbits, Cayuga and Runner ducks, and various chicken breeds including Phoenix, Sumatra, Egyptian Fayoumis, and several Bantams.
