About the Farm
Background
Laurel and Francis Piggott began the farm in 1949, initially growing apricots, strawberries, and peaches. Over the years, the farm expanded to include a variety of vegetables and is now operated by their daughter Laurie and her husband George McManus III. In 1996, a trailer was set up to sell excess produce, leading to the establishment of the current market in 2003. A bakery was added in 2012, further expanding their offerings.
Practices
The mission of the farm has remained consistent for over seventy years: to be excellent stewards of the land and its resources, ensuring the growth of delicious and nutritious fruits and vegetables. The farm employs approximately one hundred seasonal workers to help maintain and harvest the diverse crops.
The Rest
The market offers a wide variety of produce including asparagus, strawberries, blueberries, peaches, tomatoes, apples, pumpkins, and Christmas trees. The on-site bakery produces fresh baked goods from scratch, and the market also sells local honey, maple syrup, jams, and jellies. Seasonal items such as hanging baskets and mums are also available. The farm has two locations: the original in Benton Harbor, MI, and a newer location in St. Joseph, MI.
