Cows are required to thrive on native shortgrass prairie with minimal hay supplement, even in extreme weather. The selection process is rigorous, with cows needing to produce and wean a calf every year or face culling. The focus is on optimizing pounds-per-acre rather than pounds-per-animal, ensuring that the cows are efficient and adapted to their environment. The ranch also selects for vital economic traits such as fertility, calving ease, moderate cow size, fleshing ability, structural correctness, disposition, and longevity.

The ranch's mission is to help ranchers increase both fun and profit in their business by focusing on pounds-per-acre. They have conducted feed and carcass tests to ensure their cows meet industry standards for desirable end products. The ranch also holds prestigious bull sales, with strict criteria for bull calves to be included.
