About the Farm
Background
Formed in summer 2006 as a result of a Community Needs Assessment with initial seed funding from the Hub of Petaluma Foundation, Petaluma Bounty has grown into a cornerstone of the local food system. Known for its diverse array of produce including arugula, basil, spinach, broccoli, chard, cilantro, collards, cucumbers, eggplant, epazote, potatoes, kale, leeks, lettuce, pears, melons, mint, parsley, onions, peppers, pluots, radishes, bok choy, salad mix, snap beans, strawberries, and summer squash, the farm has become a vital resource for the community.
Practices
Emphasizing collaboration and education, the farm promotes self-reliance and a strong local food system. The farming methods are designed to ensure a diverse and healthy crop yield, supporting both the land and the community. The farm's practices are rooted in a philosophy of interconnectedness, focusing on the health of the soil, plants, and people.
The Rest
The farm offers a variety of programs, events, and resources, including the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program and a seasonal farmers market that runs every Thursday from June through mid-November. Additionally, the farm collaborates with local vendors like The Italian Corner, which offers fresh pastas, sauces, and desserts. The farm also engages in advocacy efforts such as Market Match Lobby Day to restore funding for nutrition programs.
