About the Farm

Background

John and Karen Pendleton have been farming together for over 40 years, cultivating a diverse array of vegetables, bedding plants, and cut flowers. Their produce is sold directly from their farm, at local farmers markets, and through a CSA program with 200 subscribers. Karen’s floral designs are particularly popular at the Lawrence Farmers Market and for local events such as weddings and the Symphony in the Flint Hills.

Practices

The farm takes extra care with each plant, ensuring quality for customers. Bumble bees and butterflies play a crucial role in pollination, particularly in the hydroponic tomato shed. The farm also offers 'pick-your-own' opportunities for some crops, allowing families to engage directly with the farming experience.

The Rest

The farm is open from mid-March to mid-December and offers an online shop updated weekly. John and Karen Pendleton also host a podcast called 'The Stalk of the Town,' sharing their farming experiences and community stories. The farm's CSA program provides a weekly bag of produce, and they have published a CSA cookbook to help members make the most of their shares. Visitors can enjoy a relaxing shopping environment in the Kaw River Valley, with friendly, neighborly service.
