About the Farm
Background
Since 1981, this small family-owned farm has been dedicated to organic farming. By 1984, their gardens had earned an honorable mention in The Robert Rodale's Organic Gardening Magazine contest. Expanding their offerings, they began making organic soaps and bath care products in 1985. As a local food producer with the KC Food Circle since 2001 and a host farm in the Growing Grower KC program since 2005, they have showcased their gardens in the Cultivate KC Farms and Gardens Tour multiple times and won a SARE grant for their project 'Incredible Crop Yields From Small Urban Spaces.'
Practices
The farm adheres to organic farming principles, growing a diverse array of specialty and hard-to-find heirloom and hybrid crops. Their produce includes tomatoes, squashes, lettuces, eggplants, okra, sweet potatoes, potatoes, beans, corn, onions, leeks, cabbages, broccoli, and melons. They emphasize the use of organic essential oils in their bath care products, ensuring a natural and refreshing experience. Their commitment to organic practices is evident in their slogan, 'It's Only Natural If It's Organic.'
The Rest
In addition to produce, they offer a unique Community Supported Soaps and Agriculture (CSSA) subscription, providing customers with seasonal produce and a variety of homemade organic products like soaps, balms, body butters, jellies, syrups, and herbal seasonings. Their products are available at local markets and online, where customers can explore and purchase from a wide selection of soaps, body butters, sugar scrubs, salves, balms, bath salts, herbal bath teas, sachets, and potpourris.
