About the Farm
Background
Pat Montoya's Family Orchard is a fourth-generation orchard located in the Velarde Valley along the Rio Grande River. Known for their certified apple cider and a wide variety of apples, the orchard has become a staple in the community. The Montoya family has been cultivating the land for generations, ensuring that their produce remains fresh and of the highest quality.
Practices
All fruit at the orchard is Certified Naturally Grown, meaning only organic methods are used for cultivation. The Montoya family avoids the use of pesticides, focusing instead on sustainable farming practices that maintain the health of the soil and the surrounding ecosystem.
The Rest
In addition to apples and apple cider, the orchard produces a variety of other fruits such as peaches, pears, apricots, and cherries. They also offer award-winning jams and jellies, including unique flavors like Choke Cherry and Chile Jam. While the orchard is not open for apple picking this year due to understaffing, they continue to participate in local farmers markets and offer online orders with contactless delivery.
