About the Farm
Background
Located in Decatur, Indiana, this farm was transformed from a concentrated dairy operation housing over 400 cows into a pasture-rich paradise. Known for its commitment to delivering the health benefits of real food through a herdshare program, the farm has become a notable player in the small organic farming movement. Although not fully certified organic, the farm strives to go beyond organic in its practices, revitalizing the land under its care.
Practices
The Ayrshire cow herd is pasture grazed year-round on forages grown in pesticide and herbicide-free soil and receives no grains. The goats, while not 100% grass-fed, are supplemented with non-GMO barley and oat rations. Emphasizing the interconnectedness of soil health, plant health, and animal health, the farm focuses on harvesting solar energy with grass grown on healthy soil. The cows are raised on a non-GMO forage diet, harvesting most of their own food on pasture, and receive no grain.
The Rest
Farm visits are encouraged, with regular tours offered to educate visitors on farming practices. The farm delivers raw milk to herdshare owners throughout northern and central Indiana. Additional products include bulk beef, soup bones, grass-fed beef and eggs from Seven Sons Farms, raw honey, and beeswax. The farm also advocates for food freedom, encouraging support for the right to choose raw milk consumption.
