About the Farm
Background
Park Hill Orchard has become a beloved destination for families and school groups, known for its diverse range of perennial fruits and its unique 'Art in the Orchard' exhibition, which has received a Gold Star Award from the State Senate and Cultural Commission. Open daily from July 1 to November 21, the farm provides a perfect setting for a family outing.
Practices
The farm employs modern integrated pest management techniques, allowing hundreds of species of insects to coexist in the canopy while targeting a small number of harmful predators with specific tools. This approach contrasts with the old method of using 'cover sprays' to control fungi and insects. The farm is committed to using all available tools and data to grow healthy fruit.
The Rest
Visitors can enjoy self-serve cherries and raspberries during the day, and the farm offers about 95 varieties of perennial fruit, including raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, peaches, nectarines, plums, pluots, cherries, pears, and apples. The farmstand and several farmer's markets feature their produce, and they are home to the original CIDER SLUSHIE. The farm also emphasizes the energy-saving benefits of eating locally grown food, noting that it uses significantly less energy compared to grocery store food.
