About the Farm
Background
Located in Southeast Pahrump, Nevada, close to the Nevada-California border, this farm has carved a niche in producing high-quality apiary products. Known for their Great Basin Raw Desert Honey, the farm has become a local staple, offering unaltered honey directly from the hive. Over the years, they have expanded their offerings to include bee pollen, royal jelly, propolis, and beeswax. Despite no longer offering tours due to the risk of bee stings, they continue to sell their products directly from the ranch.
Practices
The farm's bees gather nectar and pollen from a diverse array of desert plants, including yucca, mesquite, wildflowers, orchards, and alfalfa fields. Some nectar is also sourced from native grasses, thistle bushes, flowering ground covers, and trees like cottonwood, elm, and mesquite. The honey is processed minimally, only passing through a cheesecloth filter without steam filtering or cleaning. This ensures that the honey retains its natural properties, including its varying colors, tastes, and textures, which are influenced by the minerals in the nectar collected by the bees.
The Rest
The farm's blog offers numerous articles on the health benefits of honey and other bee products. They emphasize that darker honey contains more minerals, adding nutritional value. Their product range includes raw honey, propolis, royal jelly, and various infused honey products. Despite the absence of tours, customers can purchase these items directly from the farm.
