About the Farm
Background
A fourth generation farm known for its commitment to diversity and local business, this farm has long been a steward of open spaces and a healthy environment. Membership with their CSA supports the preservation of the small, working family farm lifestyle, which is increasingly endangered. Their vision is to create a self-supporting farm organism.
Practices
The farm grows over 50 types and 300 varieties of vegetables, melons, berries, and herbs, with a focus on heirloom and open-pollinated varieties. Soil health is paramount, and they integrate animals, cover crops, and small grains into their vegetable rotation. They use no synthesized fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, or treated seeds, and their potting soil is approved for organic production. Planting and harvest schedules are planned according to the lunar calendar.
The Rest
Products include carrots, onions, pumpkins, beef, eggs, pork, squash, and poultry. They offer a CSA membership that supports local business and the preservation of open spaces. The farm also hosts monthly potlucks and markets grass-fed cattle, pastured-poultry, and vegetable-fed bush-hogs.
