About the Farm

Background

Six years ago, Lisa Duff, along with her husband Steven and their children, moved to a small farmhouse in northern Baltimore County, transforming the neglected land into a thriving farm. Lisa's childhood experiences with gardening and raising chickens, combined with her background in Integrated Biology and teaching, laid the foundation for her passion in farming. Initially aimed at providing wholesome food for her family, Lisa's dedication quickly expanded into sharing her produce with the wider community.

Practices

Oak Spring Farm adheres to organic farming principles and is committed to high animal welfare standards, as evidenced by their AWA certification. The farm's mixed flock of 140 laying hens, including breeds like Black Australorps and Rhode Island Reds, are allowed to forage freely in woods and fields, enjoying fresh air and sunshine. The farm's practices emphasize the importance of treating animals well, which in turn produces healthier and tastier food. Additionally, the farm is part of the Real Organic Project, further underscoring their commitment to organic and sustainable farming methods.

The Rest

Oak Spring Farm offers their produce and eggs through a CSA program, local restaurants, and farmers' markets. They are dedicated to educating and inspiring the community to support local agriculture, emphasizing the nutritional and ecological benefits of fresh, locally-sourced food. The farm also provides various community engagement opportunities, including gardening classes and farm tours, fostering a deeper connection between consumers and their food sources.
