About the Farm
Background
North Mountain Pastures, a small family farm in Perry County, Pennsylvania, has been dedicated to producing great food using ecologically sound production practices since 2006. Brooks and Anna, along with their children, have been farming together and selling pasture-raised meats directly to consumers through The Meat CSA since 2009. The farm spans 84 acres and is committed to healing the land, nourishing people, and treating animals with respect.
Practices
Animals are naturally raised outdoors, on grass or in carefully managed woodlots, and fed only non-GMO grain. The farm's philosophy emphasizes transparency, with a commitment to sustainable agriculture and a belief that farming should not be hidden from public view. They host farm visiting days twice a year, allowing customers to meet the farmers, observe animals firsthand, and ask questions about land management and animal husbandry. Their products, including 100% grassfed beef and lamb, pasture-raised pork and chicken, and pastured eggs, are produced without GMOs, antibiotics, or hormones. Sausages are crafted using Himalayan salt and organic spices, and their bacons are cured with Pennsylvania applewood and no nitrates.
The Rest
The farm offers a CSA where customers can buy meat shares and receive a monthly bag of various combinations of meats. They also sell sauerkraut and other fermented vegetables, raw grassfed cheese, and pastured turkeys. Their mission is to produce food that supports vibrant human health, being delicious, nutrient-dense, practical to prepare, and free of toxins. They aim for transparency in their farming and meat production practices, ensuring that consumers receive the highest quality taste and nutrition.
