About the Farm
Background
Founded over 25 years ago by Dale Sellers, North Florida Farms emerged from a desire to address malnutrition, poverty, and hunger in disadvantaged communities. Inspired by his work as a crisis counselor, Dale sought to create a solution for the lack of locally grown, chemical-free food. The farm has since grown into a family-run operation committed to providing fresh, healthy produce to the surrounding community while also aiming to impact agricultural practices globally.
Practices
North Florida Farms employs a hybrid soil-based hydroponic system, utilizing liquid-based fertilizers and organic amendments to enhance soil and plant nutrition. This method allows for year-round cultivation of produce in specially designed eco-shelters. The farm's practices are informed by extensive research and collaboration with scientists and researchers worldwide, ensuring high nutrient value and sustainability. The farm's unique system is designed to be resource-efficient and capable of being adapted to various geographical regions and climates.
The Rest
North Florida Farms is not just another local organic farm; it is a comprehensive food-production system designed to operate 365 days a year with minimal operational costs. The farm provides over 80 full-time jobs with livable wages and donates over 55,000 pounds of fresh food to local food banks annually. The long-term vision includes establishing a network of Agricultural Research Centers worldwide to promote sustainable agriculture and alleviate hunger. The farm's produce includes heirloom tomatoes, bell peppers, gourmet green beans, eggplant, squash, melons, mixed greens, and more, all selected for their health benefits and superior taste.
