About the Farm
Background
Nightingale Farms began in 2005 with a small flock of free-ranging hens providing fresh meat and eggs to family and friends. The farm expanded with the addition of Icelandic ewes in 2006, which produced award-winning fleeces. In 2020, the farm saw further growth with the introduction of dairy goats.
Practices
The hens at Nightingale Farms are truly free-ranging, roaming wherever they please during the day and returning to the henhouse at night for safety. They are fed a commercial blend along with bugs, seeds, and sprouts they find naturally. The hens are never crowded, their beaks are not removed, and they molt naturally. Older hens are not culled, as a gesture of gratitude for their service. The farm's Icelandic sheep and dairy goats are raised with similar care, ensuring they have access to natural light, food, and fresh water, and are treated with respect and kindness.
The Rest
Nightingale Farms offers meat and eggs for sale, with options for delivery or farm pick-up. Visitors can also participate in activities such as bottle-feeding baby goats. The farm produces and sells natural products like lotions and soaps, emphasizing quality and the use of natural ingredients. The owner, Lateefah, manages daily farm duties and product creation, serving as a role model for her children and encouraging them to pursue their passions.
