About the Farm
Background
Located just east of the three villages of Manzanita, Nehalem, and Wheeler, the farm is located along the Nehalem River in the foothills of Oregon’s Coastal Range where the historic town of Foss once stood. Known for its grass-fed/finished beef and pastured pork, the farm caters to intentional eaters concerned about non-GMO food and animal welfare, supporting family farmers and local food economies.
Practices
The farm adheres to holistic management principles, practicing intensive rotational grazing to ensure a healthy environment and maximize biodiversity. Certified Animal Welfare Approved, the cows and pigs live humane, stress-free lives grazing on plentiful pastures. The farm manages pastures organically without herbicides or pesticides and works exclusively with butchers certified as Animal Welfare Approved. Cattle are grass-fed/finished, consuming a diet of grasses and legumes, while heritage Gloucestershire Old Spot pigs forage on high-legume pasture and are supplemented with Oregon milled non-GMO grains.
The Rest
The farm's beef is aged for a minimum of 14 days to enhance flavor and tenderness, and their meats are featured in restaurants in Portland and along Oregon’s North Coast. They also offer all-natural beef jerky, honey produced on the farm, and pasture-raised cheeses. Products are available for retail at the Ranch and various regional locations, with partnerships including non-profits and businesses supporting local food systems.
