About the Farm
Background
Situated in northern Sussex County, the farm rests upon 3.11 acres of Ingleside sandy loam soil. It features a homestead-style layout with 1 acre of garden blocks, a 16 X 32 heated greenhouse, and a 16 X 100 unheated hoop house. The farm is known for its commitment to traditional farming methods, using tools familiar to past generations while also embracing modern agricultural technology.
Practices
The farm employs a tight cropping system to maximize yield from a small area, allowing for multiple crop rotations per bed throughout the season. An all-natural approach is taken to growing, with large amounts of compost, local animal manures, and naturally occurring rock minerals incorporated into the soil. Minimal spraying is practiced, even with certified organic substances, to protect beneficial insects, healthy bacteria, and the soil-based fungal web. Bees are kept on the property, supporting hundreds of pollinators and ensuring careful pest and disease management.
The Rest
The farm is dedicated to serving its community and surrounding areas by providing high-quality, nutrient-dense produce with minimal environmental impact.
