About the Farm
Background
Established in 2007, Molter Family Orchards grew out of a vision Aaron Molter had to farm organically on land that had been farmed by four generations of his family in Southwest Michigan. The land, having rested for many years, was certified organic in 2008. Over the years, the farm has expanded its variety of fruits and vegetables, all certified organic by MOSA. Aaron and Kari Molter, along with their daughters Helen and Pearl, maintain the farm and are committed to food safety, achieving GAP certification in 2015. They belong to several agricultural organizations and have taken on leadership roles within their community.
Practices
The farm is USDA certified organic and MAEAP certified in cropping systems. They focus on maintaining healthy soil and growing a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. Their commitment to food safety is evident through their GAP/USDA food safety certification and participation in the Food Safety Program for Cider Makers. The Molters emphasize personal connections with their CSA members and the local community.
The Rest
Molter Family Orchards offers fresh certified organic fruit and vegetables, as well as fresh pressed cider in season. They welcome visitors to tour the farm and provide a no-pressure, educational environment. The farm also sells produce wholesale to numerous markets, juicers, and online organic distributors. In 2016, Aaron was elected to the board of the Benton Harbor Fruit Market, and Kari was appointed as a board member for the Michigan Agri-Women.
