About the Farm
Background
Started in November 2012 by Jordan Scheibel, this market garden is located on the Lacina family farm just north of Grinnell, Iowa. Initially offering chemical-free produce, it transitioned to certified organic in 2016. The farm offers a variety of vegetables, fruits, fresh herbs, flowers, and plant starts seasonally from May through December, with some storage crops available during the winter months.
Practices
The farm relies on renewable biological processes that build soil and enhance ecological health. With a focus on growing better, not bigger, the two-acre size is intentionally small to prioritize land care, product quality, and customer service. The farm employs sustainable techniques that are designed to be beneficial for the farmers, the community, and the environment.
The Rest
Products are marketed directly to customers through Community Supported Agriculture shares, farmers markets, online buying clubs and cooperatives, restaurants, and special events and bulk orders. The farm also hosts public on-farm events and educational workshops throughout the year.
