About the Farm
Background
Since 1919, this family farm near Louisburg, NC, has been dedicated to raising quality beef cattle. Known for their naturally grown Angus beef, the farm prides itself on its long-standing tradition of humane and environmentally friendly farming practices. Over the years, they have expanded their offerings to include grass-fed lamb, chevon (Boer goat meat), and Berkshire X pork, along with certified organic vegetables grown in rich soil and a hi-tunnel greenhouse.
Practices
The farm employs a closed herd system, selecting superior carcass-trait Angus bulls from across the nation. All animals are born on the farm and spend their entire lives on pasture, never confined to factory feedlots. They are raised on native pastures, grass, clover, and farm-raised oats, barley, and rye, without added hormones or antibiotics. The farm holds a Beef Quality Assurance Certification (BQA) from both North Carolina and national programs, ensuring high standards in animal care and environmental stewardship.
The Rest
The farm hosts the annual Dinner in the Meadow, a fundraiser supporting the Leonard-Mobley Small Farm Fund, which provides grants to small farms in eastern North Carolina. The event celebrates local agriculture and helps ensure the sustainability and success of small farms in the region.
