About the Farm
Background
Martha, an Ecuadorian native, grew up learning bioethnic farming techniques passed down through generations of Inca agricultural practices. Her husband Pete, a free-lance photographer, brought a wealth of knowledge from his travels. Together, they established their farm in Ohio, combining traditional Ecuadorian methods with modern bioregenerative practices. They have successfully sold their produce at local farmers' markets for many years.
Practices
The farm employs Biointensive-Biodynamic methods rooted in ancient principles. They focus on nurturing the earth, transforming Ohio mud into rich, black humus without the use of chemicals. By integrating traditional ethnic farming techniques with modern bioregenerative methods, they create a nutrient-rich ecosystem that supports a diverse range of crops. Their approach mimics nature, enhancing soil characteristics and promoting the health of the land.
The Rest
The farm is a family project, with Martha and Pete working side by side to bring their vision of respectful living with the earth to life. They grow a variety of crops, including off-season vegetables and foods with international flavors, catering to the desires of their local community. Their produce is available at several farmers' markets in Cleveland and Peninsula, and they emphasize the 'sacramental aspect of food,' celebrating the connection between the market, the community, and their family traditions from Ecuador.
