About the Farm
Background
Waldo Hotz envisioned a sustainable farm to grow food for his family and community, always thinking of the next generation. Since 2002, he and his daughter Beckie have collaborated to grow this unique farm vision. Waldo brings his technical mindset and life’s wisdom, while Beckie contributes her agricultural experience with livestock and plants. The farm's name, Mariposa, symbolizes growth and change.
Practices
The farm employs rotational grazing for both hens and lambs, ensuring that the animals are always on fresh, green pastures. The hens are supplemented with locally grown, GMO-free grains, while the lambs are grass-fed with no grain. The farm also focuses on selecting easy-care and parasite-resistant Katahdin sheep through data collection and research-based selection methods. Additionally, Beckie manages honey bee hives, producing exceptional honey from local flowers.
The Rest
Mariposa Farm provides lamb to families across New Jersey, working with a local family-owned butcher to meet specific cut requests. They accept payment for honey, lamb, and breeding stock via Venmo. The farm is located in western New Jersey and serves as an oasis for all life to thrive on its green pastures.
