About the Farm

Background

M & A Ranch, a family-owned and operated business, has been raising Angus cattle in Browns Valley, CA since 1979. They are lifetime members of the American Angus Association and have a herd influenced by UC Davis Purebred Angus genetics. Over the years, they have introduced New Zealand and Akaushi Wagyu genetics to enhance the quality and health of their herd.

Practices

The ranch incorporates organic principles without the added cost of certification, never using spray or pour-on insecticides. They raise grass-fed and grass-finished beef in a calm, low-stress environment, allowing cows to graze freely on 800 acres of native and irrigated pasture grasses. The cattle are supplemented with homegrown, insecticide-free vetch, clover, and rye grass hay. Pastures are fertilized with natural beef manure, and no added hormones, steroids, antibiotics, preservatives, dyes, or fillers are used during processing. The meat is aged for 21 days for optimum tenderness and flavor, then vacuum-sealed and frozen for freshness.

The Rest

M & A Ranch beef is sold by the quarter and one-eighth, with availability at local markets such as Sunflower Health Food, Garbarino Market and Deli, and Tuff Stuff Jerky. The ranch also offers a viewing of the herd by appointment or via email video. Customers can purchase beef by the certified live weight, with the ranch handling the scheduling of harvest and processing. The ranch guarantees GMO-free beef, raised on mother's milk, native and irrigated pastures, and pesticide-free clover, rye, and grass hay.
