About the Farm
Background
Loup Farms was born in 2013, driven by Charlie's expertise in farming and Stephanie's passion for health and nutrition. The couple moved to Minnesota in 2012 for Stephanie's graduate studies, where Charlie gained valuable experience working at the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community organic farm. This experience inspired their Community Supported Agriculture 'box' program model, which they brought back to Louisiana.
Practices
The farm employs a blend of methods to control weeds, including occultation, landscape fabric, hay, flame weeding, and hand cultivation. To manage fungal diseases and insects, only OMRI listed products are used. Their fertility program involves the application of composted chicken manure or feather meal, followed by ample compost. Low-till methods are utilized in production, and they plant mostly hybrid varieties with a few heirlooms, ensuring no GMO varieties are used. Seeds for direct seeding and transplants are untreated or organic.
The Rest
Loup Farms offers a CSA for 24 weeks of the year and operates a Farm Stand every Saturday from 8AM to 12PM from September through the end of June. They serve the New Roads, Louisiana area, including Pointe Coupee Parish and West Feliciana Parish. The farm stand features a variety of produce such as tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, eggplant, peppers, and more, along with fresh eggs and honey.
