About the Farm
Background
Located 20 miles south of the US capitol, Longview Farm is known for its commitment to humane and natural farming practices. The farm has become a staple in Prince Georges County for its dedication to protecting open space and natural habitats while producing high-quality, delicious food.
Practices
The farm's Angus cows are drug-free, grass-fed and finished, and rotationally grazed, moving to fresh grass twice a day during the growing season. Heritage Berkshire and Ossabaw pigs forage and root through oak, hickory, and poplar woods, supplemented with a natural barley/wheat feed ground fresh at an Amish feed mill. Hens are pastured and fed non-GMO corn from the same mill. Vegetables, including heirloom tomatoes, are grown without chemicals. The farm's practices sequester carbon and replenish the soil, emphasizing a holistic approach to land stewardship.
The Rest
The farm's meat is USDA processed, ensuring quality and safety. Heirloom tomatoes, with evocative names like Heart of Compassion, Marianne, and Cherokee Purple, are a highlight for their incomparable flavor. Longview Farm's mission includes a strong commitment to protecting open space and natural habitats in the suburbanizing area of Prince Georges County.
