About the Farm
Background
Lokelani 'Ohana, a 15-year-old non-profit, creates socially therapeutic programs in housing, organic gardening, Saori weaving, and the arts for the Maui community, including adults with developmental disabilities. Inspired by the Camphill movement, they support each other's choices, potential, and quality of life. The farm is located on old Hawaiian land on the North shore of Maui, Hawaii, and has been a vibrant part of the community, providing educational programs and feeding the community for 15 years.
Practices
The farm employs biodynamic gardening methods, integrating native Hawaiian culture and tradition. The land features a mix of established and newer fruit trees, terraces of taro, potatoes, and various vegetables and herbs. They also grow cotton for their Saori Weaving program. The farm's practices emphasize reverence for spirit, creativity, and nature, supporting each other's potential and sharing a life of purpose.
The Rest
Lokelani 'Ohana sells produce to local health food stores and collaborates with people from Medicaid Waiver Programs. They have welcomed WWOOFers from around the world for the past three years. The farm offers tours, movement and mindfulness classes, and other community events. They are currently raising funds to complete an educational building to host a variety of classes and initiatives.
