About the Farm
Background
Established in 2008, the ranch has roots dating back to 1952 when Margot's father, Tom Terry, was a pioneering farmer and rancher in Laredo, Texas. He designed the first commercial feedlot in Texas during the 1950s, which was featured in The Cattleman magazine. Many years later, Margot, a former head of Saint Nicholas School in Houston, and Bill, a retired Episcopal priest, moved from a high-rise condo in Houston to the Lazy A Ranch with their family.
Practices
The ranch is certified by the American Grassfed Association and Animal Welfare Approved, ensuring high standards verified by annual independent audits. The cattle are grassfed and finished heavy, with a focus on humane treatment and sustainable practices. The ranch is also a member of several cattle associations, including the American Akaushi Association and the British White Cattle Association of America.
The Rest
Beef can be ordered online and picked up in Houston or at the ranch, with overnight shipping available within Texas. The ranch offers packages of all sizes and individual cuts. Visitors can participate in various activities such as fishing, gardening, composting, woodworking, and more. The ranch's processor, Smithville Meat Locker, is a certified humane slaughterhouse.
