Lawns To Legumes

Homeowners in Kelowna, British Columbia, sought an alternative to maintaining water-intensive lawns and reached out to Janice to transform these spaces into productive vegetable gardens. This initiative has grown into a patchwork farm operating on five different properties.

The farm employs SPIN Farming techniques to maximize efficiency on small plots of land. No chemical pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers are used. Instead, natural materials such as compost and leaf mulch are utilized. A bicycle is used for plot maintenance to minimize fossil fuel dependence.

The farm operates on a number of residential sites, creating a unique urban farming network within the community.
