About the Farm

Background

In 1965, Charles and Judith Brothers purchased a 109-acre farm in northern Kentucky, originally focusing on cattle and tobacco. Over the years, the farm produced various livestock, but tobacco was the main source of income. In 2004, Denise Brothers, inspired by her homesickness and a desire to utilize the farm differently, researched lavender farming. By 2005, the family planted their first lavender field, and in 2006, they opened an on-site gift shop. The farm expanded its offerings and began participating in local festivals and guided tours. Despite challenges from harsh winters and rainy springs, the farm continues to innovate and add new products.

Practices

The farm initially focused on traditional crops like tobacco and livestock but transitioned to lavender farming in 2005. They planted their first lavender field and expanded to 1000 plants. However, due to several years of adverse weather, the main lavender field was dismantled, leaving only a variety bed for viewing. The farm emphasizes the multifunctional use of lavender, from decorative items to culinary herbs, and continues to adapt its practices to changing environmental conditions.

The Rest

The on-site gift shop, opened in 2006, features over 100 lavender products, including culinary items. The farm offers guided tours and participates in local festivals such as the Kentucky Wool Fest. Despite downsizing their lavender fields, they continue to innovate with new products and maintain an active online presence. The farm also hosts workshops and pop-up events, and they are planning a family wedding, adding a personal touch to their community engagement.
