About the Farm
Background
Located in the picturesque Laurel Mountains of western Pennsylvania, this farm is situated just 13 miles from historic Ligonier and 8 miles from downtown Johnstown, with Pittsburgh only an hour and a half away. Despite having 17 acres, only one acre is dedicated to raising alpacas, preserving the natural woodland setting of the property. The farm is known for its commitment to the principles of the Ideal Alpaca Community, utilizing Studmaster Males, EPDs, and Marty McGee Bennett's Camelidynamics handling techniques.
Practices
The farm adheres to the Ideal Alpaca Community's principles, focusing on breeding alpacas that are well cared for and produce high-quality fleeces. They use Studmaster Males and EPDs to guide their breeding practices and employ Marty McGee Bennett's Camelidynamics handling techniques. The alpacas are CLA-free, and the farm emphasizes the importance of maintaining the natural woodland setting of their property. Alpacas on this farm nibble only the tops of grasses and other plants, allowing vegetation to regrow, and their soft, two-toed feet leave no footprint, preventing pasture and soil damage.
The Rest
The farm offers a range of alpaca products, from raw fiber to finished goods such as socks, mittens, gloves, scarves, shawls, hats, beanies, and home goods like rugs and dryer balls. They also provide various types of alpaca yarn and fiber for crafting. The alpaca fiber is known for its moisture-wicking, odor-free, and antibacterial properties, making it a high-performance material for garments. The farm frequently offers promotions and free shipping on orders over a certain amount.
