About the Farm
Background
The farm began with 5 acres that were difficult to mow, leading to the construction of a barn and the acquisition of a horse. To manage the overgrown pasture, the owners re-fenced the area and started with 3 ewes and a ram. Over time, the flock has grown to include 10 breeding ewes and a Katahdin ram, with a recent switch to a Katahdin/Dorper cross.
Practices
The farm's butcher lambs are grass and hay-fed. Initially starting with Cheviot ewes, the farm transitioned to Katahdin sheep to eliminate the need for shearing, which was hard to find.
The Rest
The farm offers lamb for the freezer, with prices including butchering, and ewes for pasture, with prices depending on weight and breeding status. Additionally, they sell unbleached, undyed yarn at $3 per ounce and homemade jellies made from their own mint, apples, blackberries, mulberries, and strawberries sourced from Michigan u-pick farms. Their specialty is blackapple jelly, made in small batches on the kitchen stove.
