About the Farm

Background

Larry Balestra, a fourth-generation farmer, followed in the footsteps of his great grandfather who migrated from Italy and settled in Green Valley to farm cherries and peaches. Larry and his wife Lisa, both graduates of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, opened a roadside produce stand in 1986 near Fairfield, CA. Starting with 40 acres and a single employee, they have expanded to over 1,200 acres and employ approximately 80 people during peak season. Their stand has grown into a busy hub for local shoppers, businesses, and visitors from nearby areas.

Practices

Larry's Produce farms a diverse array of fruits and vegetables, including wheat, safflower, garbanzo beans, and canario beans. They augment their selection by purchasing produce from the San Francisco terminal market, ensuring a wide variety of fresh products that they cannot grow due to climate and soil restrictions.

The Rest

The produce stand offers U-pick crops such as black-eyed peas, tomatoes, pickling cucumbers, eggplants, and various hot chiles. Customers can use provided wagons or baskets for their shopping convenience. Larry's Produce has become one of the largest fresh produce stands in Solano County, serving as a one-stop shop for fresh produce.
