About the Farm
Background
Located in the Mad River Valley of central Vermont, this certified organic family farm has been in agriculture since 1804, with buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. The current owners began their sheep and berry operation in 2001, aiming to reclaim tired pastures and grow perennial food crops native to the ecosystem. Over two decades, the farm has become a gathering place for social and environmental change makers, known for its purebred Icelandic sheep and certified organic pick-your-own blueberries.
Practices
The farm employs organic land management and rotational grazing, with a focus on no-till practices and conservation plantings to regenerate soils and support wild pollinators. The Icelandic sheep are 100% grass-fed and moved to new pastures every few days to build soil health and reduce parasites. The orchards and fields are certified organic, avoiding synthetic fertilizers and chemicals, and fostering a deep reverence for the living soil and creatures.
The Rest
Visitors are welcome from June to October, with pick-your-own blueberries available June-September. The farm offers a variety of products year-round, including lamb cuts, sheepskins, raw wool, blankets, and yarn. Workshops and classes are run throughout the spring, summer, and fall. The farm also hosts The Refuge, a retreat center for deep conversation, reflection, and celebration, available from May 15 to October 15.
