About the Farm
Background
Ken and Karen, along with their children Jared and Kellye, started raising hens for personal use and have since expanded to commercial production, supplying eggs to 65 local HEB's and 15 Kroger stores. Ken's background includes growing up in Corpus Christi, Texas, serving in the United States Army, and working at NASA and the United States Army Corps of Engineers before retiring in 2017. The family's commitment to quality and ethical farming practices has driven their growth and success.
Practices
The farm employs a pasture-based system where chickens graze freely on open pastures, consuming bugs, grasses, and weeds. They are fed Certified Organic and Verified Non-GMO, Non-Soy, Non-Medicated feeds from Coyote Creek. The use of eggmobiles allows the chickens to follow cattle, aiding in land fertilization and promoting a sustainable environment. The birds are housed in secure shelters at night to protect them from predators and are moved weekly to fresh pastures.
The Rest
The farm offers delivery of eggs, honey, and broiler meat birds to the Houston/Galveston area with varying delivery fees based on order size. Their products include eggs at $6.00 a dozen, raw unpasteurized honey at $13 a pint, and broiler meat birds at $7.00 a pound. The flock has been tested and certified clean by the State of Texas/TVMDL. The farm's commitment to treating birds with respect and allowing them to live naturally is central to their philosophy.
