About the Farm

Background

The journey began in 1971 in Danbury, Essex, UK, with Derek and Molly Kelly and their son Paul, who aimed to produce the best turkey possible. They collected small flocks of bronze turkeys from Scotland, England, and Wales to create the KellyBronze breed. The KellyBronze turkey became famous in the UK, winning the best turkey award for eight consecutive years. In 2012, the Kelly family bought Heritage Glen farm in Crozet, Virginia, to introduce the KellyBronze turkey to the USA.

Practices

The KellyBronze turkeys are a slow-growing breed, raised to full maturity on pasture with natural feed and no antibiotics. They are hand-plucked without added water and dry-aged for a minimum of seven days. The turkeys are raised wild, free to run and forage in woodlands across four seasons, following traditional methods to enhance flavor and tenderness.

The Rest

Visitors can see the turkeys growing wild before Thanksgiving. The farm offers a range of products, including confit turkey thigh and turkey ham, and provides simple cooking instructions. The KellyBronze turkey is celebrated by food critics and publications like The Times, The Daily Telegraph, and The Financial Times for its superior quality and flavor.
