About the Farm
Background
In 1989, the first season of Kadejan was dedicated to custom processing for local farmers and pheasants from a hunting preserve started by Pete Thorfinnson. As demand grew from fine restaurants in the Twin Cities area, the farm began to focus on 'free range hens,' which they had already been processing. Over the years, the business expanded, building a new processing facility in 2007 and converting the old plant into a hatchery. In 2009, Kadejan Market was opened, featuring their renowned chicken, fresh organic produce, grocery items, and other local foods.
Practices
Chickens are raised naturally on pasture, never given antibiotics or hormones, and never fed animal by-products. During the winter, animals are kept in barns and fed a vegetarian grain supplement.
The Rest
Located in Glenwood, Minnesota, approximately two hours west, northwest of the Twin Cities, the farm has developed a strong market presence in fine restaurants and offers a variety of local foods at their market.
