About the Farm
Background
Since 2010, the farm has been dedicated to teaching homesteading skills and sustainable farming practices. Officially starting classes in 2014, it has grown to include a nearly 5-acre garden, a variety of livestock, and numerous educational programs. The farm is known for its comprehensive approach to self-sufficiency, including food preservation, animal husbandry, and traditional crafts.
Practices
The farm employs methods that are 'better than organic,' avoiding pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilizers. Special attention is given to soil health, engaging the soil food web to produce healthy plants. The farm raises its own beef, chicken, and pork, and practices sustainable hunting. Food preservation techniques such as canning, dehydrating, and freezing are integral to their operations, alongside seed saving and maple syrup production.
The Rest
The farm offers a variety of homesteading classes and workshops, including canning, bread baking, soap making, and deer processing. They also provide garden consulting and a summer CSA. Produce is sold by special order and at a roadside stand. The farm's mission includes educating and inspiring the local community through projects like The Victory Gardener, and they offer a subscription-based members-only blog with recipes, tutorials, and online classes. The farm is a family-run operation, homeschooling their nine children and living a frugal, self-sufficient lifestyle.
