About the Farm

Background

The 48-acre farm, located in Cherry Valley near Stroudsburg, was historically home to Josephine Porter, who raised milk goats and made biodynamic preparations from the 1960s to the 1980s. Started in 2007 by Heidi Secord and Gary Bloss, the farm continues the legacy of biodynamic agriculture. It operates on a portion of the former Snyder Farm, owned by Stroud Township as part of its open space initiative.

Practices

The farm employs biodynamic and organic farming methods, recognizing the soil as a living entity essential to human health. The focus is on regenerative agriculture, with a commitment to soil vitality and ecological balance. The farm also manages a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) operation and produces value-added products like garlic vinegar.

The Rest

The farm is home to the Josie Porter Farm Buying Club and Cherry Valley CSA, and it offers educational events such as the Cherry Valley Festival. The farm stand is open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays, providing fresh, regeneratively grown produce and dairy from local partner farms. Heidi Secord and Gary Bloss bring extensive experience in agriculture, community planning, and landscape architecture to their roles at the farm.
