About the Farm
Background
Founded in 2008 by Toey and Linda Courtney, the dairy originally started in 1992 as a partnership under a different name. After buying out their partner, the Courtneys renamed the farm CTex Farm. A new milking facility was constructed in 2007, and by late 2008, Jersey Girls Milk Co. was formed to directly market their milk in response to the decline in the commercial dairy business.
Practices
The cows are pastured year-round and only confined during milking. They are never given growth or milk-enhancing hormones like rBST or rBGH. Their diet consists of 85% grazing on grass, silage, and dry hay, and 15% feed concentrate given during milking. The cows receive approximately two months off before calving to rest. Antibiotics are rarely used, and milk from treated cows is withheld until antibiotic residues are undetectable.
The Rest
Visitors are welcome to tour the farm and discuss operations. The dairy also produces cheese and yogurt from their raw Jersey milk, offering a rich, creamy texture and authentic flavor. More information, including hours, directions, and current pricing, can be found on their website.
