About the Farm
Background
The Golden Earthworm Organic Farm, a first-generation family farm, began in 1994 as the first Certified Organic vegetable farm on Long Island’s North Fork. Founded by farmers Matt Kurek and Maggie Wood, the farm has been committed to organic and regenerative farming for 30 years. Initially, they focused on Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) to create a direct connection with the community. In 2023, the farm relocated to southern Vermont, working with the Vermont Land Trust to preserve the agricultural heritage of their new farmland.
Practices
The farm employs a blend of innovative methods and ancient practices that honor the land. They are dedicated to organic and regenerative farming, aiming to grow food that feeds the community while building and nourishing the soil for future generations. Their practices ensure the highest quality USDA-Certified Organic produce.
The Rest
The farm acknowledges that their new location is on Abenaki land, one of the earliest known farm sites along the Connecticut River. They have placed a conservation easement on the property to ensure it remains agricultural land in perpetuity. The farm celebrates 30 years of organic farming and continues to provide CSA shares, including vegetable, fruit, and egg shares, to thousands of families across Long Island.
