About the Farm
Background
Family has been a key component to the success of the farm and continues with today’s fifth generation owners and operators. In 1972, Levi and Norma started with a few rented acres and some feeder pigs. Over the years, the farm expanded its acreage by purchasing land and renting from several landlords. The hog operation grew from feeder pigs to two confinement farrow to finish operations, but the herd was sold in 2009. The farm has also grown chickens, Indian corn, mini gourds, pumpkins, and cabbage. Since 1999, the farm has focused on growing ornamental and vegetable crops, including tomatoes for Red Gold, Inc., an Indiana processor.
Practices
As good stewards of God’s many blessings, the farm endeavors to produce quality agricultural products by using its abundant resources. The farm preserves the family farm entity while meeting the individual needs of each family unit, offers a helping hand where needed, and maintains a sense of community responsibility while being governed by Christian principles.
The Rest
Currently, the farm grows tomatoes, jalapeno peppers, and banana peppers. The goal is to continue expanding the family farm through increased acreage and new crops so the next generation can have the privilege of farming the land.
