About the Farm

Background

The farm began with a couple of mixed-breed hogs purchased online, raised on a homemade feed mix. The taste of the meat led the family to explore heritage breeds, eventually focusing on Berkshire hogs for their friendly qualities and superior meat marbling. After acquiring Hereford hogs and a USDA-approved slaughter and processing plant from a retiring farmer, the farm expanded significantly. Despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the farm has persevered, driven by a growing interest in healthier lifestyles and local food sources.

Practices

Hogs are raised ethically and humanely, with a focus on allowing them to live happy, healthy lives. They roam freely on a 20-acre farm, grazing on grass, wallowing in mud, and enjoying a stress-free environment. The farm avoids the use of hormones and antibiotics, relying instead on a natural feed mix of soy, corn, and a special vitamin and mineral pack. The farm's philosophy emphasizes the importance of humane treatment and natural living conditions for producing high-quality, flavorful pork.

The Rest

The farm offers a variety of pork products, including fresh belly, rendered lard, and caul fat. They have built a USDA-approved slaughter and processing facility, unique among small farms in Florida, and plan to open a retail location featuring products from local farms. The farm's commitment to supporting local agriculture and providing customers with natural, high-quality pork has garnered positive feedback from the community.
